I think they were talking about having Bernardeau switching to center.

We have a bunch of big guys who can play guard. I doubt they all make the team. The only bad part is that with Wharton penciled in at left guard there is only one open guard spot for Vincent/Brown/Fonoti/Schwartz to fight over. I guess Hangartner is our primary backup center behind Kalil but I am not sure what happens to Mathis and Bridges.

We'll see what he shows during training camp. All of the vets we signed aren't going to stay and I can easily see Bridges or Mathis getting cut as well. Also not sure what Frank Omiyale can do after being inactive forever and it seems we are going away from the zone blocking scheme he used in Atlanta. So I would give Schwartz a pretty decent chance.

Mathis and Bridges are not anything special and if they get beat out in camp and lose their jobs then we are probably a better team for it.

If Gross and Wharton were really that good so as to allow Goings to rush for 100 yards per game and on the other side we have Otah and the big guy who wins the job then we should have a very solid OL. There are a lot of ifs in that statement though.

Has there been anything said about moving to less zone? I realize it would appear that way but any comments about it? When it boils down, it really only appears there will be one position that it substantially bigger than last year and that is RT if Otah starts there. Whoever ends up at RG will be roughly Bridges size.

Bridges is at RT. He's not at guard. As far as I know, Schwartz should be at RT also.

No idea. I'm sure the buzzwords will come out closer to camp but we didn't run a ton of zone last year except with Williams during the season, and not that much then either. I don't know if it just wasn't working out well for them, whether it was due to weaknesses inside, or if it was just a matter of Foster lacking the burst for it, or even just simplification so we could get through games preparing a new QB each and every fucking week.

Most of what I have read on Schwartz says he will be a guard in the NFL. I doubt both Bridges and Mathis make the team, regardless of where they line up.

I haven't seen that much of pushing him to guard. A number of sites have him listed as a top 15 tackle.
