Why can't you POS owners just train your dog to stay in the yard?

I started to get an invisible fence for my invisible dog, but I can't tell where he's at anyway.

Seriously, I'm thinking of getting one of these too, I'll just do it myself. The prices Wossa quoted were similar to a 10' x 10' dog lot, and it gives the dog much more room.

Thanks Solarte, Wossa, and Reznor. I think Yinzer and I will probably install it ourselves. You guys have been very informative. Who'd have thunk it?

Thank you too Ace. I understand what you are saying. The problem is, we won't be in this house long enough to get use out of building a fence, and I want the dog to be able to get out and play some without being on a leash, or chained. We can take the invisible fence with us, which is a big plus. We are probably only going to put it in the back yard, so he can come around front and go through the house to get back in. We will be around and will be looking out for him. I can't wait to get him. I feel like a kid at Christmas.

if you aren't going to be in the house long you can look into a portable invisible fence.

A girl here at work bought one (at Home Depot not sure how much) and she said it works great. Best thing is you can take it with you. Has a small radius I believe - something like 270 feet. But works just like an underground fence with no installation.

Take it with you when you move or visit. worth a look

and thanks - Buster is a cute one. Wasn't planning on another dog but can't say no to those eyes. Plus Jake needed something besides the cats to play with since we ended his neighborhood roaming days.

I knwo the chances are small that it could happen, but I never felt real comfortable taking that chance.

As for the front/back yard, you will have to run the front yard at least a little bit so that you can wrap the house, and complete the circuit. You can't run the line across the back of the house or else he won't be able to go back inside. Kinda hard to explain... Here's a quick diagram:

Thanks Ace. That makes sense. I completely understand what you are saying about not taking the risk, but I can't stand to not let him have some room to roam without being tied up. I'd rather the risk of him getting out then to always have to have him tied up. I can't stand it when I see dogs tied up.

This one is awesome. It's wireless so the "fence" is a circle. You can increase and decrease the range if needed. You can also take it with you.

Wossa's right. Lowes has them. Not sure about that other place. $299 for the system. Cheaper than a kennel.
