I've been looking around my property and finding a lot of really cool plants. When I bought the place, it was a little run down from lack of maintenance. I spent last summer and the winter clearing out a lot of overgrown plants. I took out a couple small trees and a lot of shrubs. Now, I'm looking to replace them.

I want to try my hand at cuttings. I've got some great plants in the backyard, but moving them isn't possible. Anyone have any experience? My search brought me to this site. www.freeplants.com

    Plants to propagate this summer:

azaleas ( really looking for a purple azalea. If you have one, let me know. :) )
    quince bush
    forsythia
dogwood - got a deep red one in my front yard
euonymous - it's growing like a weed in the woods next to the house
    lilac
    nandina

I didn't know what a quince bush was until I found one on my property. It's like a forsythia, blooming really early, but with red/pink flowers. It's so pretty in full bloom.

LOL. You don't want to know what my place looks like right now. It's a mess. If it weren't for weeds, I'd have nothing. Once my flowers come up, and the shrubs I did manage to get transplanted fill out, it'll look a lot better. I'm trying an English cottage style garden for the front walk.

For the Forsythia just cut a limb off and stick it in the ground where you want it grow. It will root. You can probably do the Euonymous the same way.

I've got euonymus growing wild in the woods next to the house. Everytime a limb hits the ground, it throws out roots. I just want to put them all in one place. I may start hitting the flea markets next spring. I can order 500 peat pellets for less than $50. I only need about 100 plants of my own. I figure a few dollars here and there will offset the cost of plants I intend to buy this spring.

LOL. Sorry. It's a great site. Especially the stuff about rooting soft/hardwood cuttings. I'm going to try my hand at roses this summer. I've always been afraid of them.

I dug up two suckers from my own quince bush this week. I put them in full sun where the parent plant is in the shade. I cut off all the new growth to force them to bush out more. They've already put out new leaves. :N1yeeaah:

I started 6 cuttings today, one forsythia, two golden euonymous, and three green euonymous. It might be too early, but it might not.

Trying to find more information about pink dogwoods. Apparently, they're more difficult than the white variety. If I plant seeds from a pink, I will get a white one. Another 4-6 weeks before I can try cuttings of that.
