    $6 mil a year.

It's certainly cheaper being a linebacker than a corner.

The Philadelphia Eagles made another move to improve their defense Saturday, signing end Chris Clemons to a five-year contract.

    Financial terms were not disclosed.

Clemons' signing comes one day after the Eagles inked cornerback Asante Samuel, the premier free agent available, to a six-year contract worth a reported $54 million.

Clemons, 26, enjoyed a stellar 2007 season for the Oakland Raiders, registering a career-high eight sacks, despite being on the field for just 37 percent of his team's defensive plays.

"I want to thank the Eagles organization for taking the approach of coming after me. I hope to bring nothing but the best to coach Reid and the Eagles organization," Clemons said. "I've always had it in me. I have had a couple of bad breaks early on in my career. I got jump-started early last year and really took off."

In Philadelphia, Clemons should help bolster a defensive line which features outstanding depth.

Clemons has appeared in 36 career games with Washington and Oakland, collecting 13 sacks.

"Chris will work into the rotation with the defensive ends. As many guys as we can get in there, you know how we like to rotate guys in there," Philadelphia coach Andy Reid said. "This allows us to, if we can get four good guys in there, cranking it up and going, then that's what we want. Chris adds to that group."

Saints agreed to terms with DB Randall Gay on a four-year, $17.6 million contract. The deal is worth $6.7 million in the first two years.

He'll be better than Jason David but he still isn't a huge talent- I'm not worried.

    SAINTS SNAG McCRAY

Despite the presence of pass rushers Will Smith and Charles Grant in the starting lineup, the New Orleans Saints have secured the services of defensive end Bobby McCray.

Per a league source, the five-year deal is worth $20 million with another $4.5 million in escalators. He'll make $5 million in the first year of the deal.

The numbers imply that McCray will be a reserve in New Orleans.

McCray played in 14 games last season, and started in nine. He had only 3.0 sacks, down from 10.0 in 2006.
