I read somewhere that the picks will be #4 in round 3 (pick 68; 250 value), and the 6th pick in round 5 (pick 92; 134 value). So going by those numbers, the trade would net us a value of 384, which would be the equivalent of the #52 pick in the 2nd round...which, according to FAN01, is exactly what we would have gotten last year if we had agreed to the rumored trade with the Rams.

Personally, I would have liked the high 2nd, but despite what we fans may think, I just don't think his market value was quite that high.

Resounding positives - yeah, he had his chances at being disruptive in the locker room. We got some value out of a guy who wasn't going to sign a new deal, and we got equity out of a guy who used to be dominant and hasn't been lately.
And, we won't give up a bunch of penalties from offsides and running plays because of lack of discipline.

If the Rams had offered a 2, I thought we would've bitten. Did the Rams offer a 2?

agreed, not really much way of making that happen without giving up a bit more value.

As far as I know, it was just a rumor. To be honest, I doubt we were ever offered a two. Like you, I think we would have taken it and run.

quit throwing the steve smith pick in there, this regime didnt select him. lets just hope its a spoon or wharton equivalent.

looking at the drafts since 2003, it looks like only 7-8 pro bowl players have been selected in the third round. obviously not the greatest way to judge the success of a draft pick, but we gave up a pro bowl player so thats why i used it, plus its easy.

Here are our 3rd and 5th round picks under Fox/Hurney:
    2002
    3 (73) * LB Will Witherspoon Georgia
5a (137) QB Randy Fasani Stanford
    5b (145) # FB Kyle Johnson Syracuse
    2003
3a (76) TE Mike Seidman UCLA
3b (82) # CB Ricky Manning, Jr. UCLA
5 (145) DE Kindal Moorehead Alabama
    2004
3 (94) OL Travelle Wharton South Carolina
5 (163) WR Drew Carter Ohio State
    2005
3a (79) OL Evan Mathis Alabama
    3b (89) # DT Atiyyah Ellison Missouri
5a (149) LB Adam Seward UNLV
    5b (169) % OL Geoff Hangartner Texas A&M
    2006
3a (88) * LB James Anderson Virginia Tech
    3b (89) T Rashad Butler Miami (FL)
5 (155) TE Jeff King Virginia Tech
    2007
3 (83) DE Charles Johnson Georgia
5a (155) TE Dante Rosario Oregon
5b (164) % LB Tim Shaw Penn State

technically, it'll be one of the top picks in the second day.
I hate this new draft split.

edit - to add, I'm glad we did get a 3 and 5. It was as high as the market would allow, obviously, since no one's topped it. It does give us a 5 back, which I imagine the team did want. And, it gives us a pick squarely between our 2nd and 3rd, and there are certainly still very good players at the top of 3.
