I come from a Land Way Downunder.
I'm getting these on a nightly basis - and it's just horrid :frown:.

I'm wondering if it's my exercise regime that's causing it? I've always exercised in the morning, but lately my schedule has been sucky and I've taken to walking (up to an hour - briskly) each night. I have good shoes and don't notice any discomfort while I'm walking or after, but I wake (sometimes up to three times a night) with the worst lower leg cramps around the outer shin area (sometimes though, it crawls to the calf region too). Reducing or stopping the walking is not an option. I like walking at night - so I'd rather not change that. Anyone got any suggestions to stop the cramps though? I take a multi vitamin daily - but I'm wondering if I need something else?

Make sure you are stretching well before exercise and are you drinking plenty of water? I've always been told that leg cramps can be caused by dehydration...........

Eat a banana or take a potassium pill. That will probably stop 'em from occuring

    leg cramps

Low potassium or low calcium will cause leg cramps. Bananas and milk, yogurt, etc with the calcium will help.

I agree with the potassium remedy. Taking 99mg of potassium in addition to a multivitamin (along with 600mg calcium) should do it. [Somebody told me that calcium was good to take in conjunction with potassium. Anyhow, it doesn't hurt.]

Drink some tonic water before you go to bed. The quinine in it is good for cramps. My Grandmother's doctor told her to do it because she has them from time to time. There is also an old wives tail about putting a bar of soap down in the covers of your bed, but I have no idea if it works.
