We need an upgrade at Free Safety this offseason. Harris is enough at strong safety but we need some help at free. Deke Cooper is better as a backup. The other guys are not really worthy of a roster spot.

In free agency the only guy I can think of who would be an upgrade is Hamlin. I am sure Dallas will try to keep him. There are some guys in the draft. Kenny Phillips is the top safety and should go high. I also like Thomas Decoud, he has some coverage skills. There is also Tom Zimbowski from Notre Dame that might be worth a look.

Any of you college football fans know of some other guys that would help us? I think we need a guy who can cover more than another run support safety.

    Nate Salley.

Because that's who you're gonna be stuck with.

    Salley will back Harris.
    Hamlin was re-signed.

Phillips is rated too highly, and I really wouldn't anymore likely put another high piece in that puzzle. We really don't have a bad secondary at all and a young guy with Cooper would work out well, but a 1st, with our rush, I don't see that strengthening us the way a line pick or offensive impact player could.
    Not awful.

    SS type. Doesn't really work.

Where does Decoud project to go in the draft? I know it is probably too early to predict now. I wonder though if he could be had in the second or third rounds?

I agree that our secondary is not awful but there is no reason not to have a quality free safety. I really hope it is not Nate Salley.

Zimbowski is a Harris-type player so that's not a good idea. FA is the place to look for a FS since I don't think anyone coming out will fit in. Hamlin will resign with the Cowgirls I think, the sad part is we could have had him last year if they had put any effort in to it.

    Hamlin's already re-signed, I'm 99% sure.

Zbikowski's rated about where he should be, now, but because of his multi-purpose background and background as a boxer, he was rated top 50 last year when he was considering coming out. And that's just not the level of player he is.

Free Agent wise there is Gibril Wilson and Eugene Wilson if I'm not mistaken. Those guys would be upgrades over Cooper.

Draft wise Phillips at 13 is too high for me. Weak safety class so DeCoud and some others probably going somewhere in the 2nd. Though he looks pretty solid

either'd be great and have mentioned them before.

Still looking toward keeping Cooper, though youth behind a vet would be nice too.

Mike Mayock has picked NC State's DaJuan Morgan as the top FS this year. I consider Mayock to be one of the more credible "draft experts" in the biz. I don't think Morgan has as much straight-line speed or big play ability as Phillips, but he is a better tackler.

    Mayock's top 5 Safeties:

    1.DaJuan Morgan N.C. State
    2.Kenny Phillips Miami (Fla.)
    3.Thomas DeCoud Auburn
    4.Marcus Griffin Texas
    5.Tyrell Johnson Arkansas State
