CHAD FLIRTS WITH CHARLOTTE

Bengals receiver Chad Johnson continued to back-door campaign to get out of Cincinnati on Wednesday with a comment to Mark Packer of WFNZ in Charlotte.

Per multiple readers, Johnson addressed on "Primtime with the Packman" the possibility of teaming up with receiver Steve Smith.

"85 plus 89 equals Super Bowl," Johnson supposedly said.

That would be something, but it's completely unrealistic IMO. Plus, he's just talking it up with the media.

 

that'd be a fun, useless way to piss away money and picks in one package, getting people's hopes up unrealistically about where this team is as a whole, and setting the stage for the sort of implosion that will be considered epic to a team that's still familiar with 1-15.

 

or, we end up with two dominant receivers.

but, i'm leaning somewhere between creaming my shorts and 2001-esque morbidity.

 

it'd start somewhere around that middle ground and inevitably be our demise. I have no idea how a guy who's been in the news all offseason without playing football or doing anything illegal would ever work with our problems.

 

In fairness, he might be right. It'd present matchup problems that'd give opposing DCs fits.

I honestly have no idea how it would work teamwise, or if it would work.

Johnson and Smith being prior teammates probably helps. If Chad didn't get along with Jake, things could be thorny. Then again, Jake seems like the kind of guy who could get along with anyone for the team's sake (for what it's worth, Keyshawn liked him).

I'm torn. My gut says it'll never come about, but stranger things have happened.

An interesting subtext to this: Would Smitty lobby for it to happen? What if he does and the team shoots it down?
