I remember seeing Patten give the alligator arms in the '04 Super Bowl. That keeps sticking out in my mind. You'd like a guy who can do all those things and be fearless over the middle, but I guess those guys are rare.

I wanted Egram years ago when he was still a Bear, he's become the model of what I'd want in a slot WR. A vet who can step in and out of the line-up and give you quality snaps. The Panthers need that calm cool and collected vet presence to compliment Smith with a younger #2.

Engram, Troy Brown. You need a guy that's a receiver but selfless. Those two would run through a wall, and they're more football player than athlete.

Chris Johnson is a running back, not a wide receiver. Good grief.

Huh. Apparently there's a chance Donte Stallworth's will be cut due to the fact that his contract explodes next season. How would he fit as a #2/3 ?

NO! Doesn't he have attitude problems?

OK #2 against a posession type #1 or a complete #1, but not an effective slot. He can make some plays, and certainly has the athleticism and size, but he's not consistent enough to be open on 3rd down and do the things you want the slot to do.

I've read some feel that Johnson is a pro WR in the making instead of RB.

He's a shorter, slightly more polished version of Carter. I've never been impressed.

I'm not even sure if he's much better than Travis Taylor.

Proehl was great at finding the dead spots in coverage. That's one of the things I think makes a great slot receiver.

Colbert was drafted to be just such a creature, but it didn't pan out (and likely never will). Hence, the need arises again.

I'd honestly prefer a vet like Bryant Johnson at #2. You could probably get a decent slot guy in the draft.

Good slot receivers are easy to get in the draft, just not for the Panthers.
