We looked absolutely awful on offense in our final three preseason games, barely beat two of the worst teams in the NFL, and got blown out at home by the Texans. While I am desperately hoping that Jake comes back healthy and ready for '08, I think it's a mistake to feed into the notion that he was why this season failed. I don't think that's the impression you intended to give, but it's pretty common and something I've been fighting since I first felt like it would surface. This team has serious issues that need to be resolved whether Jake is 100% or not.

it wasn't the one I gave, either, coincidentally.

Actually it is. I qualified the statement because I didn't think you were intending to, but feel free to be an ass in spite of the fact that I was obviously trying to avoid offense right there. I guess you're back to wanting to argue with me again tonight.

Why is it always me wanting to argue when you take offense to something I'm saying? The deal between you and what people think with Jake, that's not my issue.

I said Jake Delhomme means a lot to this football team. That doesn't and shouldn't need qualified by saying whether or not I said that he was or wasn't the reason we lost football games. I don't need subtext and caveats to state that.

I didn't "take offense." I specifically went out of my way to indicate that I didn't believe you meant to give that impression. You chose to respond by being an ass even though I was clearly attempting to avoid conflict there, which is somewhat ironic for someone who continuously complains about how I argue with people. As I said yesterday, it takes two people to argue and you sure seem inclined toward it yourself.

I stated what I meant. Jake Delhomme means a lot to this football team.

I actually agree. Although his turnovers drive me bananas, he's a capable QB and obviously means a lot emotionally to his teammates.

Let's remember that in preseason we were installing a new scheme and rotating OL around like no tomorrow. And went the first two games with Kalil at G. And then switched again. Early ineffectiveness on offense wasn't to be entirely unexpected.

Add to that the S situation playing out early and the inevitable Morgan injury complicating things on D, there too early struggles were fairly predictable.

It's not unreasonable to speculate we'd have gotten better as a team as the season unfolded.

Fun fact: we scored 20+ points in all 3 games Jake started, and it took the next 13 games to rack up 20+ points 3 more times (ARI, SF, TB).

We may not be the 07 Patriots w/ Jake, but we are really really really bad without him.

Yeah, I think we all expected some growing pains, and games like the first NY game and the STL game kinda changed some of that expectation. That said, we should still be better than we are, we dug ourselves a hole with the WR issue, and a lot of problems that already existed still apparently exist.

But, I'm hopeful that we can do well with competent QB play from a guy who's been with the team more than a few weeks.
