Along with that thought, QBs are over valued in the draft because they play such a critical position. A lot of mediocre QBs get elevated to the top of the draft simply because so many teams have a need for a QB.

A lot of the top guys in the league were not drafted very high if at all:

    Tom Brady
    Matt Hassleback
    Tony Romo
    Marc Bulger
    Jake Delhomme
    Jeff Garcia
    Derek Anderson
    John Kitna

even Favre got traded from the team that originally drafted him.

We have a suitable starter (let's not start this argument again, but we've not had an A-list QB let's just say) and we haven't had an effective backup since Jake was behind Peete.

I think addiction is just doing the same thng over and over again, with no concern for the results.

    Favre was a 2.

Successful QBs come from all areas. QBs get overvalued, but for the most part, a first round QB should be the best quality player. There really isn't any difference between the above and a first round QB in the level of effort you have to put into the player for development. Just throwing in a later round QB doesn't help, obviously. Though I've always been curious to see what would happen if a team drafted two midrounds QBs, developed them both, and had them compete.

best way to not start the argument is to not bring up what you're going to argue about

that being said I'm going to leave this for what it is

Agreed, therefore we can not judge Fox's approach as a failure.

The amount of cap space it eats up to draft a QB in the top of the first round verses what it takes to find a guy who can play through other means is not the same. I agree that just drafting a late round QB is not likely to work but finding a guy you can sign as a free agent or trade for is often a good way to find a QB. That is how we got Delhomme, let him develop somewhere else then nab him when he is ready to start.

It's not a failure...but how would you characterize our current situation?? And where does today's situation put us in 3 years?
