I look at it like those things that do not hit the box score even themselves out. For every big drop by a wide out there is a drop by a DB that was not an interception. Vinnie may have been very safe with the ball but there is nothing wrong with that. I am not sure Carr would have been patient enough to have pulled this off.

Except that they don't, which is the whole point in watching the games, otherwise NFL analysts could make their comments and write their articles just from reading the box scores on Monday morning.
All too often conversing with you honestly feels like teaching Spanish to someone with Down's syndrome. I am saying and have been repeatedly saying that we attempted so few downfield passes by design. Fox and Davidson wanted to protect Testaverde, and rightfully so. I am not blaming the player, I am pointing out that a trained monkey could have carried out that gameplan, and that it worked in large part because we knocked out Arizona's quarterback, leaving their offense largely inept.
Because you have a negative emotional response to him. Your opinions have absolutely nothing to do with facts or objective evaluation, which is why we quarrel about them so often. You doubt that we would have won with Carr because you do not like Carr, and you think Testaverde was great because you like Testaverde. That's why you can't answer any of my points or make a fact-based argument to support your own positions. It's all emotions and feeling with you.

I don't blame fans for thinking about a change. I do think Carr played well at New Orleans, but he sucked against Tampa and for most of the preseason. But starting Vinny is not realistic. He's 44, and you can't expect him to last an entire season at that age, even if he is a physical freak of nature.

He also made a few throws yesterday that could have cost us. We should count our blessings that Warner and Boldin were out, and get ready for Indy with a functional Carr.

Carr didn't play well against the SAINTS!

17 attempts 10 completions for 119 yards 1 TD and 1 INT with a 75 rating is well!

It's below the 78-82 average, so how the fuck is a 75 playing well?

Carr SUCKS. Houston threw a parade when he left. He throws and looks like a bitch. I have never been so wrong about a guy and I hope he never throws another pass for the Panthers.

Vinny is not the long term answer, but he is the Rodney Peete of 2007 and we need to ride him until he goes down.

He walked on and threw 20 out of 33 for 206 and a TD with an 88.7 which is WELL above average. He also targeted our star players and spread the ball around. He earned the starting position with out question!

This is true, but I think what people saw was a poise and leadership that has been absent with Carr.

This isn't about 'heart and passion', it's about the trust and confidence of your teammates. Vinny seemed to have that better than Carr did.

That said - backup is the most popular guy around, and now Vinny's the backup. Matt moore was the backup last week. Carr was the backup in ATL - and you heard calls for him the week after that. Sometimes I think the backup inspires confidence just because if he's in, the offense often isn't working well. They do one thing right - boom - confidence.

Carr at least responded to adversity - getting his back cracked, throwing a terrible pick in the 4th quarter in winning FG range. He responded with a win.

Vinny has not had the adversity - either because he doesn't suck as bad as Carr ( that was for Collin ) or because he was slightly luckier.

Either way - in my eyes - it IS a controversy b/c here we are. The team was never Carr's ( by his own admission ) and I don't think that changed because we beat New Orleans. I think, if it's anybody's team, and if that's even relevant, Vinny took a bigger piss on the territory than Carr did.

Fox has often opted for the vet. Rodney fucking Peete comes to mind. I would not be surprised if Testaverde gets the nod.

Dispappointed that Carr didn't work out, but not surprised.

The Indy game is going to go a long way towards clearing the air on any QB controversy. With either QB, I just don't see how we come away with a win vs. Indy (options 1 and 2 below). So you have a few scenarios on starting QB's:

    1) Carr starts and the Panthers get trounced. Result is that there will be an even larger demand for Vinny as starter
    2) Vinny starts and Panthers get trounced. The bloom will have fallen off the Vinny rose; the fanbase will go back to bickering who the starter should be.
    3) Carr starts and Panthers win. Carr holds his spot as Panthers #1 guy.
    4) Vinny Starts and Panthers win. Plans begin for statue of Vinny to be built outside of stadium. Fanbase will be talking Super Bowl with Vinny.

Besides, how many of us "budgeted" the Indy game as a win? I view the Indy game as playing with house money, especially since TB lost to them as well.

So after that post, I have some stuff from Sorensen that kinda backs up that leadership quality, and that the team seems to believe in Vinny. We didn't hear much of this after the NO game.

When tight end Jeff King talks about Vinny, he is so awestruck he sounds like a kid. Since he's 19 years younger than the quarterback, he gets to.

"He is a special guy," Kasay says of Vinny..... "He's made a lot of (Carolina) players better. He is a true professional."

Asked for an example, Kasay says that two hours into the team's flight from Charlotte to Phoenix on Friday, Vinny still was studying game tape on his laptop.

Says Vinny: "If I was to play, I wanted the guys to see that I was ready."

"I don't know how much he even knows the offense yet, but he got the job done," defensive tackle Kris Jenkins said.

    Gantt:

"As soon as I saw him throw the ball," running back DeShaun Foster said, eyes wide in amazement. "I knew Vinny's still got it."

"First of all, to be able to play at his point in life, is a tribute to him," Fox began, waiting then for the laughter to subside. "Taking care of himself, to be able to play and do the things he does physically at his age is a testament, I think, of how hard he works. "He's in the weight room. He's a guy's guy. He's a guy you like being around. And you could sense that from the guys playing around him in a short time."

    Nothing except this
suggests that the players had more belief in Testaverde than any other QB, and if you'll note, the parentheses mean that Kasay didn't actually say it was "Carolina players." Sorenson may have just assumed that, but in that context it doesn't make much sense. Those quotes just sound to me like they were impressed that someone so old could play at all. You'd see similar statements if you looked at what Atlanta Braves players said about Julio Franco, but it didn't mean that the Braves played better with Franco at first base or that they wanted him to be the starter. It just meant that they were impressed that he was still effective at that age.
