After yesterday, for many of the above stated reasons, I actually like Vinny better than what I've seen from Carr so far.

However, what concerns me is how Vinny's body will respond to the beating he will take physically if he plays 3-4 weeks in a row.

Vinny T: 20 out of 33 for 206 yards 1 TD 0 Int rating 88.7 (with very little prep time)

David Carr: 32 of 62 for 330 yards 2 TD 2 Int rating 64.6 (with a full training camp and two starts)

In what measurable way did Vinny fail to outplay Carr?

Let's see after Vinny faces a defense like the Bucs. Also, you underplayed NO's defense (which I believe is skewered because at the time they played 3 top 10 offenses in Indianapolis, Tampa Bay and Nashville). Arizona is good, but I don't think they're on par. Let's see how Vinny does against Indy.

You would think I had learned by now that his opinion trumps any stats.

The Cards have won some games, including beating the Steelers, so I think they are better than the Saints.

Testaverde played better against Arizona than Carr did against Tampa simply by not running around like a headless chicken, but Carr had the best performance between them with what he did against New Orleans. He was consistently accurate on both short and long throws, while Testaverde's only accurate long pass was the one to an inexplicably wide open Steve Smith. Also, we only tried certain types of routes with Vinny because he couldn't be expected to have the same timing as Carr.

But ultimately it just comes down to the fact that if you take Carr's numbers against the Saints and double them (to match VT's # of attempts), they're slight better than Testaverde's despite Carr being crapped on all week for his performance. And that's if you ignore the fact that Carr had another 50+ yards and a TD erased by penalties and a drop, while only 4 of Testaverde's 33 attempts were more than dump offs. Basically, if Roderick Hood hadn't given us a gift, no one is talking about what a "good game" Vinny had.

So you give credit to Carr for plays erased by penalty or drops and take away credit from Vinnie for a big play that he did hit because the defense made a mistake?

As far as all the dumps offs, that is what you have to do to win, take what is there rather than force the ball. When the time is right hit a big play.

I'm pointing out that Carr made additional plays that didn't show up in the box score, while one monumental fuckup by Arizona's defense made Vinny's numbers look a lot better than they were. You can't possibly tell me that you'd be singing his praises if he'd been 19 of 32 for 141 yards and no touchdowns.
The only reason this worked is because we knocked Warner out of the game and Arizona's offense could not muster any consistent production. You can't only go farther than 10 yards on just 10% of your attempts if the other offense isn't hopelessly inept. It's not just about taking what's there, it's that we basically didn't ask Testaverde to do anything that was in any way difficult. That's good, because it was unfair of us to expect him to start with only two days familiarity anyway, but if all you're doing is throwing dump off passes, pretty much anyone can do that.

But again, I hope for Carr's sake that he comes out and has some great games because he's going to get booed like a mother fucker for every incompletion. God help him if he has a sack or turnover.
