Can you leave potted perennials out all winter here or do they need to be taken in? For example how about a braided hybiscus in a 12-14" deep pot standing about 4 foot tall. There wouldn't be enough root protection in a pot like that to survive an Ohio winter but since you don't get the long deep freezes here I was wondering.

You the yankeee, you already know the answer. Right?

Edit: Seriously, some potted plants need to be brought inside during the winter. I'm no expert, but growing up in eastern NC my mom always brought in the potted plants, especially if it was to get below freezing.

In Ohio I wouldn't even ask this question........they would have to be brought it. But, then again, we don't have barkless trees either and those survive down here. (along with pansies that always seem to be blooming)

As long as they are Perennials and not annuals you should be fine. Hence the term perennial
