I need some recommendations. I have a simple setup, not on a network, only 1 computer, DSL internet. Might even change back to dial-up if I can't find a more reasonably priced ISP around here.

I've used McAfee & Norton, never noticed any real problems with either. Time to either renew the Norton or switch to something else. Recommendations? Anything special to look for (or beware of)?

    Prefer Norton myself.

Symantec is a solid product, but hogs resources and occasionally has software conflicts. Then I've never had a favorable impression of McAfee. Avira is what I have used for several years now.

Norton bogs my system down. McAfee started to think that the windows shutdown routine was a virus. I use Avast now. No problems. Found a virus that Nortons missed.

yeah, i use avast as well. the price is right and it seems pretty good.

norton has always bothered me with how much they insist on taking over the system to protect you from yourself.

Symantec Corporate or McAfee Enterprise edition.

Normal Symantec Norton's suck donkey balls. Same with consumer version of McAfee. The Corporate versions of both are slimmed down and work without eating up resources.

    I appreciate everyone's input--thanks!

I did try to download eset, but it kept circling on me--I'd input the requested info, & it would keep taking me back to the same screen to do it again.

Went with avast, & I'm pleased. It immediately picked up some spyware that what I had before missed.

Muff told me about Avast. It found a trojan and lots of spyware that Nortons and adaware didn't. I also enjoy piracy. Arrrrrrrrrrrr! Avast ye maties!
