Anywho - Belichick got deep dicked by Roger. Dayum.

Wonder how this affects team play.

It's a pretty big kick in the ass. You fine Belichick the maximum amount, you fine the organization a quarter million, and you take away a first round pick. Granted, if it was anyone other than Belichick (say, Brad Childress), there would have definitely been a one game suspension. But the penalty still sends a message across the league.

Besides, it's just embarrassing for a team to go through something like that. It's kinda like our steroid scandal, only much more publicized.

This won’t mean shit to the pats. Will it keep Moss from outrunning triple coverage? Will it keep Brady from putting the football where only his guys can catch it? Will it help poor tackling teams (i.e. the Jets) to execute a simple tackle? Etc, Etc, Etc. I guess it stings a little for Belichick . . . 500k is a substantial amount to even the highest paid coach.
I’d bet $100 right now that . . . It’s Dallas and New England in SB XLII. Dallas will end up with a top 3 pick (Cleveland), and the fuckin pats STILL end up with a top 10 or 12 pick (San Fran).

    Gods two favorite teams

it might have been a big punishment to the raiders or lions. The patriots are the best managed team in the league. They have another 1st round pick, are favorites to win the superbowl, and in the end, this really ends up being a 250k fine for an nfl franchise that makes millions. They got off easy.

It's a strong enough punishment to deter others from doing it. A cool half mil for the coach, half that for the team and a high pick.

Since teams do change signals, and they apparently were not using this during the game, the competitive edge gained is small. So the punishment will end this.
