I'll tell you one damn thing, that offense looked totally different out there than under Henning. Tight end catching balls all over the yard.

I don't see any dumping on Henning, though. And it is a new offense. Same philosophy, most of the same players, but it's a new offense. It's not radically different, no, but that's not dumping on Dan. The players themselves are saying that there are a lot of elements that are new, plays that are new, formations, the approach, and so on. If players say "we didn't do this before", I have to believe them. Guys like Jake loved Henning. He has no reason to down Dan.

I think the difference is the expectation that Davidson would utilize the TE's, and on his first outing the TE got 5 balls. Also, our TE caught 5 balls on a day that we only threw 27 balls.

Last year, Mangum cought 21 balls, Gaines caught 15, and King caught 1. That's 37 balls total. I think that number will more than double.

Hell i'll call it here: Our TE's will catch more than 80 balls.

I stand by my prediction that the Jeff King will be the #2 receiver, I just hope it's not because the #2 WR only catches 30 balls.

The Smitty/Carter 'smokescreen' is alive and well.

Come on. You'd have to be a drunk or blind to honestly not see "any dumping on Henning." There have been repeated comments crapping on him and about how the offense is so much better now and how we wouldn't have looked like that under Henning, etc. But that really annoys me precisely because the offense didn't look different, and because we did the same thing to St. Louis last season.

Now if you really aren't looking for an argument, which I'm pretty sure you are, then let it go.

I think it will increase, mostly because we don't have a reliable #2 now that Keyshawn is gone, but I don't think it will come close to doubling. Between King and Rosario I expect about 50 catches.

There's some different terminologies, I'm sure. There may be a bit more short stop routes that we run. We kept the pitch and smoke plays, which are old holdovers.

Even the added movement, well, that was a forte of Henning. He did less last year it seems, but that could be him trying to simplify the offese when it was struggling.

Philosphy will be the same with Fox as a HC. With these players, plays will be the same. Any team with Steve Smith would be foolish not to give him the ball as much as possible, particuarly without proven commodities behind him.

Main difference is we executed well. It may not have been Dan's fault that we didn't execute last year, we had injuries and players play, not coaches. But he got the axe because of it. Davidson will get some credit when we do play well.

Yep. And if we have great success, like a top ten offense ( one of my bold motherfucking predictions ) and a playoff run, watch Davidson get plucked for an HC position.

    Maybe even in Cleveland.

Show me some, then. I don't think that saying "things are so much better" is realistic necessarily, especially with only one game, but it's not an insult. And given the things said even this week about Trgo, it's odd to get irate over Henning comments.

Well, I don't think anyone agrees with you, though, and you've been telling people for 24 hours that they shouldn't say anything about Henning but I'm not seeing people talk bad about Henning.

I did not mean to say that they are no longer going to "feed the stud". What I was trying to say was that last year they seemed lost when they could not get the ball to Smith. This game they seemed a lot more ready to use the other options we have. Jake did not force it to Smith in the end zone but instead found Carter twice.

All this is real subjective and time will tell if it was just the Rams weak D but I feel a lot better about this offense than I did before this game. One key stat to remember is that in 2006 we scored 15 points in 2007 it was 27.

I see on this board, and worse on others, people dumping on Trgo. He kept what was being called the "greatest show on turf version 2.0" to 235 yards and 13 points. When the offense was in its lull, the D kept us in it, and suffacated them in the second half. All this with a Bears backup and a street guy at safety.

All without any truly great individual performances. Had his guys prepared, in the right posiitons, and tackling.
