Disk Scrubbing Software

    getting rid of an old computer and want to clean it out.

    Any suggestions on some good scrubbing software?

    Or you can just remove the hard drive. That's what I've done with old computers.

    Muff gave me access to a software (fit on a floppy I think) that wiped a hard drive of an old machine completely. There wasn't squat left on it

    So from what I have read on the DBAN site, you have to download the program, burn a CD, then run the program from the CD. Is that right or am I missing something?

    That's what I've done in the past. Once you backup what you need, a hammer does the trick.

    Makes sense, because the operating system onthe hard drive can't be accessed while it's in use.

    You can use a floppy if your system has a floppy drive. "Double-click the 'dban-1.0.7_i386.exe' program to install DBAN to a floppy disk or USB flash device."

    Otherwise...."If you do not have a floppy drive, or if you wish to use a CD drive or DVD drive instead, then get the "CDR/CDRW version" from the DBAN home page, which is an ISO file."
