I don't think jenks will take another snap as a panther, either.

    Which sucks.

Go easy on Reed. I don't agree with alot of the stuff he writes either, but that article was nothing but him giving his opinion just like all of us are doing here. Alot of his articles are better than what the Charlotte Observer can come up with anyway.

I do hope Jenkins gets his shit together. I never had that much of a problem with his weight because he has always been such a good player, but I am getting a little worried about his attitude. It's way too early to be predicting that he'll hold out of TC...I agree 100% with that but, I can understand how alot of people are worried about it right now though. IMO, he doesn't have the leverage over management that his agent seems to think he does and holding out would hurt him more than it could possibly hurt the Panthers.

We'll see what happens but, I'm guessing he'll be there for TC whether he has a new deal in place or not.

Reed has an obligation to be a little more informed than the average joe.

Reed was better when he didn't give his opinion. Morons like Tom Sorensen have the ability to give their opinion, have a counter idiot like Scott Fowler to play off of, and an editor to tell him to think this, write this. When Reed doesn't have another staff writer anyone knows or cares about, he's gotta put a slant on the end of a story. Most people don't care when Sorensen has a column next to a news story, which is why it kinda works, and if not, it can be ignored. Opinion in a story, to me anyway, doesn't and shouldn't belong.

The simplest explanation is that Jenkins is kinda fat, wants to be relatively lazy for a slight time more, and wants to have his own control over it. When he shows up, he'll be around 350 and drop a little out of natural exertion to be around 340 to play.

The contract talk is what agents do - you sign a contract, you make a Pro Bowl, you try to get more money. Natural. They're not renegotiating his contract for cap space, they're not giving him more money, they're not doing anything, because they know he has been injury prone and the weight isn't helping at all. So the agent tries to work the Pro Bowl angle harder. I doubt any of this has anything to do with Jenkins' actual abscence, and that it's simply a function of Jenx himself.

I doubt a trade ever happens - I expected once the trade talk was exposed, the idea of a trade was essentially dead. I expect he'll come to play this season, regardless of what the production shows, and regardless of what happens, he's in better physical shape than last year coming off the ACL. I wish he was in good football shape right now, because that weight's going to come off harder than it went on.

True, but he was giving his opinion.

Well, Reed did say that he's heard from team sources that the coaching staff are frustrated about Jenkins's weight. I've heard other people with contacts on the team say that too.

Either way, opinion pieces don't bother me at all, even when I don't agree with them. I'd rather have that than nothing but stats and direct quotes that you can find in the 15 other articles in various papers and web sites about the same topic.

I know. I just believe that if you're getting paid to give one, it should be valid. It's not nice to say stuff just to stir the pot. We all know Jenkins has weight issues, but there is virtually no way that he won't be suiting up in a Panthers uniform on opening day (barring injury, of course.)

If it was on a message board or his own personal website, that would be fine. In an article he does have an obligation to do better, in theory anyway.

I can't criticize Jenkens' attitude; I really don't know if he has one or has good reason to have one, even a little one. Trade talks could not have helped much. Reed did say the coaches weren't happy about things, so apparently they have one too. So I got that much from it. Not to argue about Reed, because i'm aware of his track record (but even a stopped clock is right twice a day, etc.).
