Why is it such a big deal that Gordon surpassed Earnhardt's win numbers? These numbers aren't really that meaningful. No record was set, broken, tied. Earnhardt wasn't even second on the list.
There's not a direct comparison between the two.

I hear about all this as if it's some meaningful thing. It's just not that big a deal.

Interesting conversation about people throwing beer cans on the track.

They ban coolers and make people buy over priced beer in paper cups. Plus you would have to stand in line and miss part of the race. They say once the track realizes how much money they are missing out on in beer sales it will stick.

The few screwing it up for the many.

Funny idea was to put up mesh screen on the front grandstands. At first sounds like a good idea until you realize that the beer cans thrown are coming right back down on the fans and the liability that that entails.

SOme of the Earnhardt fans have the IQ of a rock. Apparenty some of them are pussies and cant finish their beer they bring in the track either. Those morons are going to fuck up one the best things about going to a race.

I guess it's because earnhardt was the last active driver or maybe the last driver of the "modern era". Racing has changed so much since Petty and Allison were around.

I was a huge NASCAR fan 10-15 years ago as a kid. Now I can't stand to watch it, but I did watch the final laps at Talladega.

I was a diehard 3 fan... hated 24 with a passion. Now I kinda like him because so many rednecks hate him. it's funny to see beer cans fly.

Just think what's gonna happen when Gordon surpases 3/43 w/ 8 cup trophies.

    Death threats i bet you.

true enough, and Pearson/Petty's numbers would be hard to beat.
You just look at other sports, and it's not a big deal if Drew Bledsoe gets to 7th on the all time yards list. You don't hear days' worth of this or that if Bonds crosses the top ten in homerun list.
That's not necessarily a fair comparison but seems like most sports doesn't go all apeshit about this.

    Good for him, though.

beer beats no beer. Bud blows, sure.

but yeah, 500 miles into a race, who has beer left?
