    I say this every year.

But it's hard IMO to "reach" in the fifth. you are just taking a flyer on players who you've scouted and liked in the later rounds.

Seems to me that Steve Smith was drafted as a punt returner and
many posts complained about why the hell we drafted him. Now he's
one of our best players. Just like when we also drafted Will Witherspoon
from Georgia. He was supposed to be to small. Now everyones pissed we let
him go. Relax and give these guys a chance before you write them off.

Named after Ryne Sandberg, I'm guessing.

I think this is the second best pick we made in the draft. We are so bad at special teams right now and we need a guy back there that can help us with the field position game. Smitty shouldn't have to come in and help on special teams anymore. It's time we have another young guy that loves to break the game open with a return.

This guy sounds like the real deal.

He's GOT to be a better option as a dedicated RS than we had last year . . . and he just might be a better option as a 5th WR than we had too.)

I say he's an upgrade in two areas = good draft pick

I wanted a RS for sure, but it wasn't all on Gamble and DW last year. Smitty couldn't get any room either, fwiw/IMO/etc.. I was uprised how poor we were there (both ways), but fortunately I believe the staff was too and have prioritized it. Some of the roster moves tell me they are thinking about it. Yay.

That may be true, but Gamble would literally brace himself and prepare to get the shit knocked out of him.

I honestly wanted to pull the punt returner out of the game all together and just let the ball land where it rolled. If we did get a decent return...IE Smith....we would have a penalty and it would be all for not....then Smith would be worn out for the next couple plays on offense.

I'm very happy with this guy....sounds like he was the best return man in college. VERY HAPPY!
