He was smart enough to play safety at a high level for Florida. Even if he is not that bright a good coach can find a way to use him. I just would not want to use a first rounder on a guy who is limited like that.

Davis . . . and ALL of our LB's for that matter since they have never even been able to figure out how to cover a TE

I already had Nelson as my 4th rated safety based on nothing more that watching football. For me, it's Landry, Griffin, Meriweather, then Nelson, and Weddle.

Every time I watch Nelson he looks like he's just cleaning up after a play with a shoulder shot. Doesn't wrap up with his arms and now apparently he's stupid to boot.

Griffin looks really solid at all areas of the game. Great tackler and very athletic. Remember the interception he had in the championship game? I've seen him jump up and tip footballs I couldn't reach on stilts. I've also read he's a good leader.

I like Meriweather a lot too but the off the field stuff is a little troubling but I would still take a chance on him because of his talent.

Man, if Landry becomes a Falcon we better tighten up our blitz pickup because I've seen him kill some quarterbacks.

At the 14th pick why would we take the 3rd or 4th best safety in the draft? Why wouldn't we find a 1st or 2nd best player at their position in the draft and take them reguardless of the position? If it's a LB so be it. If it's an OL so be it. If it's a TE so be it.....ect.

If there is a run on safeties and we can't get the #1 or #2 rated safety in the draft at #14, then we should pass and go to the next #1 or #2 rated player at their position. Our decision shouldn't be based on which safety falls to us.....once we are on the board at 14 we should look at all the #1/#2 rated players left on the board and pick between them.

Impact. The 3rd or 4th best safety available in the draft will still most likely be better than Branch, Williams, or Salley (and possibly a year older Minter).

Because he's not the 3rd or th best. Because he's the second best. The 3rd best (Nelson) just all all the hype. I don't know who's best. Just a hypothetical answer.

I agree that we need to be true to our board. If we want to draft a player rated about 25th, we need to trade down. However, we may rank a whole lot of players about equally, and we may not find a trade down partner. So things are sometimes murky.
