I think the educated fan wants the best QB to be determined in training camp and have him be the guy. this "Jake is #1 and David knows that going in" thinking is a good way to get yourself fired.

You do know that Carr has had more playing time than Jake and runs the ball more than Jake, so it only makes sense that he would be tackled more, right?

An most of Jakes stat fall under Fox, with the exception of the few NO games

I don't think anybody is saying Carr is better than Jake, but Carr may have potential to be better than what Carr has currently been, Jake has pretty much capped out as good as he is going to be.

I don't think that's what the educated fan is thinking at all.

ok, for conversation sake lets forget the dumb "educated fans" statment part, do you think it's better for the teams success to declare Jake the starter or have open competition?

I'm not too educated but I am hoping for a running game, Jake's enough with that. We don't have one and Carr won't be any good either.

IMO Carr was not brought here to start this year for sure, and I'd be shocked if the depth chart changes during camp/preseason no matter how good he looks.

I don't believe they got David Carr to create open competition. I believe they looked to have a better second option.

It doesn't mean Jake's untouchable. It doesn't mean that, if David Carr suddenly learns how to read a fucking defense, gets smarter, stops taking every sack available, and clearly shows he's a better player, that they'll just keep playing Jake. Jake has to lose the job.

Carr will be our starter if:

It's the end of October, we're 2-5, and Jake has a 69 passer rating.

    or:

    Jake gets hurt.

    that's it.

yeah, that's the thing. They're not that far from the same player. I don't see what Carr provides that Delhomme doesn't - it's not a big arm v/s accuracy issue. It's not a safe v/s playmaking thing. Though Carr really hasn't made a ton of plays.

If fans have any influence whatsoever on the decision, then Fox needs to resign.

The last thing I want is a coach who cares what the fans think.

You don't sign a guy as a back-up (we told Carr he would be a back-up) and then come into training camp saying it will be an open competition. It's better for our team's sake because Jake is currently the better quarterback, has a better feel for our receivers, running backs and tight ends, and is respected more than a newcomer.

Could this change? Sure. It sure as hell could change if we get off to a shitty start and if Jake is struggling, but as mags and others have put it, Jake has to lose the job. Carr cannot win the job immediately, nor does he deserve that opportunity.
