I thought there was ligament damage. That's a 6 week heal time. Even an uncomplicated sprain is 4 weeks, although sometimes they play on them sooner.

Thursday has a bunch more Foxspeak making it hard to tell if Jake would be playing or not despite the fact that the decision had been made. I wonder how you tell that a ligament had been stretched not torn on an MRI. It would seem that you would have to have a pre-injury image for comparison.

If there had been anything irregular about the healing of his thumb he wouldn't have played the last game.

That was four years ago. His QB rating last year was lower than Carr's.

Carr's completion percentage was high last year, but due in large part to being on a horrible Texan team that faced several large deficits. You'll get a lot of charity completions when trailing by multiple TD's in the fourth quarter. I do like Carr, and I see the benifit in adding him, but I don't want to oversell him either.

Besides, if he had trouble holding off Sage Rosenfels, I'm not sure he'll be able to immediately steal a job from anyone.

I'm not sure what point we're arguing with the damage. Just because the MRI said no serious damage doesnt mean there is not ligament damage. Maybe that means the ligament is not shredded or torn in 2. It could mean there is no ligament damage at all, but it doesnt say that. "Serious" isnt all that descriptive. OTHO, I think my source that there was indeed ligament damage was a press "rumor," so its not that solid. Still, the press release you cite seems carefully worded to reassure without saying anything.

Now to the point. I think you're saying that we should not be concerned that this will linger. I agree. My point was more round about. Someone said, oh, it was still hurting after 4 weeks, therefore it may be more serious. I said, its typical for (routine non-serious) ligament damage to take 4 weeks, so the fact that he was still hurting should not be a concern.

So, I think we're talking about nothing here. Maybe that helps, or maybe it just muddles it up more.

when Carr became a dumpoff artist and stopped taking any chances at all, sure, his QB rating came back up. NFL.com has him at 82.1, Delhomme 82.6. Delhomme had more TDs in fewer games, fewer INT, and ten fewer fumbles.
