On my main TV I currently have a TW Cable Card. It lets me access HD channels, Digital Channels, etc.

I've been thinking about swapping that for a HD-DVR box, but I had a question. With my Cable Card, the TV automatically stretches the non HD channels to cover the entire screen. My question is, does the HD-DVR box stretch the channels or does it leave a black box on the left and the right of regular and digital pictures?

If that's the case I'm not necessarily sure I want to swap to the HD-DVR box over the Cable Card.

Box/Card have identical stretch settings, but they suck balls. Your TV likely has better stretch modes, which you should be using.

Personally, I dont stretch 4:3 SD content. Looks like ass on a big screen. SD is SD. You can polish a turd, but its still a turd.

My TV has a wide stretch mode that looks good when using SD. That's my real concern. I think the TV paired with the Cable Card does a great job with the picture, but I want another DVR box. I've got one for the bedroom TV and love it, but I want one for my main 55" TV, and I also wouldn't mind the ability to watch PPVs on occassion in there. I'm just afraid that I'll sacrifice the benefits I have with the current setup.

You should never stretch 4:3 to 16:9. Keep the OAR!!!!

If you're using your TV's stretch mode, why would the DVR Box versus cable card matter? And they're the same anyway.

Do you understand the point that your TV's scaler chip is doing the work and your cable apparatus has jack to do with it?

I'm not paying for a DirectTV box for all the TVs I use. I can get basic cable on 2 of my TVs at have Digital and HD on the other two. If you can somehow tell me a way to get Direct to give me signal on my two other TVs and my TV tuner card on my PC then I'm all for it.
