    Delete it during the install process. Boot from the XP CD.

    I'll try with the cd in. But otherwise I keepp getting the fatal error message. We shall see.

    If you're still getting the fatal error message, it's not booting from the CD. F12 on bootup might give you a boot menu to choose from. Take the 'CD', 'DVD' type option. the 'HDD' option will be the hard drive. Avoid it.

    I'd check the BIOS as well to be sure the CD drive is ahead of the HD in the boot order. That should give you the option for a few seconds when booting to "press any key to boot from CD".

    If you end up needing to scrub the HD, try DBAN. It's free and has several options for how "clean" you want your HD.

    Doesn't matter if Bios order is set if there is an F12 boot option.
