If you want to clean/scrub your hard drive check out http://www.bcwipe.com. I have downloaded the windows edition and have been using it for years.

Haven't looked at the scrub software to know what it does, but if you want to rebuild, just run the install, delete the existing partition, create a new one, and install. NTFS quick format should be fine.

Thanks, guys. Imma do the reinstall over the weekend. The real deal will be pulling all my stuff from my desktop. I can only open it in safe mode and I got lots of files to burn inlcluding all my music and scripts and such.

Don't really even have to include the step of creating a new partition. It'll do that itself. I'd do full NTFS format, because its better for the hard drive.

Did you delete the existing partition or did you just reinstall?

I tried just the reinstall. It woudn't recognize the disc in the drive so when I cancelled out it would try to install and then just stop. I turned the pc off in frustration. The next time I tried to use it I got the fatal error message. I never even uninstalled 2000? Imma have to take it to a local shop I believe. I hope they'll install it for me even though it's a borrowed copy.:couto:

Turned off the PC in the middle of the install and it doesn't work right? :suicide:

You gotta delete the old partition if you want a clean install. Shouldn't have these kinds of problems on an XP install from scratch.

How do I delete the old partition without getting to the desktop? It will not open in any mode when I go under f12.
