Just a side note...when was the last time a Heisman Trophy winning QB was worth a fuck?

I'm a more a Jake fan than not, as far as that goes, but we'd be smart to plan for the future. Looking at the QB situation at this point in time I figure a new guy would get at least two years of learning, which I'd much prefer. It's a good time for us to make some kind of a move, unless they think Basanez is the guy (and I liked what I've seen from him too, btw). I'd probably do it, depending on what happens in FA and pick 14, keep Basanez and cut Weinke loose.

I just do not see us drafting a guy in the second round and sitting him for two years. IMHO there would be too much pressure to get him on the field sooner than that. This team still has a window to win a superbowl with the talent on the roster. Keeping Jake on the field as opposed to any rookie QB gives us the best chance of making that happen.

There will be some pressure, though nowhere near as much as if we'd spent a first. There was a lot of pressure to play Weinke (until we did). There's always gonna be people wanting to see the #2 guy. If the team's doing well it won't be a big problem.

I do not think there was a lot of pressure to play Weinkie. I doubt he would have played at all if Jake had not been injured.

I would rather not have a QB contraversy. If we give up on Jake then cut him and start over with Troy Smith or whoever we can find. If Jake is our guy then do not draft a QB in the second round.

Leinart did pretty well as a rookie.

I would rather wait until the fourth or fifth round and take Jordan Palmer. He needs a couple of years on the bench to develop and has the potential to be really good. That would give us a guy for the future without sacrificing the present.

Personally, I will throw the remote through my TV screen if we draft Palmer with any pick. I watched him in Senior Bowl practices and games and I can't tell you how many times he underthrew the receiver, and I'm talking about 10-yard hitches. He has the numbers but I feel like he is a product of a Mike Price system. True, his numbers are really outstanding and he has the size, but there is a reason that he is not perceived as a high draft pick. He has the numbers and size on paper to be a first rounder, but he just doesn't have 'it'.

As a side note, Troy Smith is great at play-action fakes, but too bad we wouldn't utilize it if he came to Charlotte.
