As I have said before, I don't like his overexagerated mechanics. He doesn't look fluid as a passer...granted he looked better this year than last year.

We can easily get a linebacker and a safety in the 1st and 3rd rounds.

Explain what you mean, because I think you're making this up. To my eye there is nothing exaggerated or inefficient about his delivery. He doesn't loop his delivery like Jay Cutler. Smith holds the ball at his chest, brings it directly back and delivers it in a clean, quick motion.

Yea but you are more likely to get two good players in rounds one and two than in one and three.

I do not like drafting a QB high when you already have a decent team. It takes a long time for a QB to develop and anytime you draft a guy high you feel pressure to start him sooner rather than later.

But you don't strictly draft to need. You don't just go into the draft and say "We need a safety and a linebacker so let's take one of each in the first two rounds regardless of who those players are." Moreover, the drop from the second to the third round is not as substantial as the drop from the first to the second. If someone as good as Troy Smith is there in the 2nd, you'd be a fool to pass him up unless someone of equal talent like maybe a Posluszny had also dropped. If you're talking about just taking whatever the best LB is left at that spot, that's bad judgment.
Do you understand that Delhomme is very unlikely to be our starter three years from now? Smith is already a polished product and while he'll definitely need a year (or preferably two) of bench time to get accustomed to the NFL like most other rookie QBs, he's going to be an above average starter in the NFL.

fancy Heisman video, but it's a good look at Smith

Those throws are on the money, even the scramble against Penn St. He looks a lot more accurate than Jake. If he fell to us in the 2nd, I think we would be insane not to take him.

I stated my opinion, I am not going to start a three page pissing match with you. My opinon is clear, that I think his mechanics are over exaggerated, he looks like he is posing for pictures. Not that he won't continue to develop, but if I want a QB who is too short he better damn well be the second coming of Doug Flutie.

Troy Smith measured in at 6'0 ft at the senior bowl. Same height as Vick and Brees.

Flutie on the other hand is 5'9.

While 6'0 isn't exactly advantageous, it's a hell of a lot better than 5'9. I'm all for taking Smith should he be there in the 2nd.

If Smith is there they would be crazy to pass him up. They need someone to start prepping for when Delhomie retires or whatever. Jake's 32 and not looking better as time goes by...
