Patriots | Franchise tag values set for Samuel, Graham
    Fri, 26 Jan 2007 10:23:18 -0800

John Tomase, of the Boston Herald, reports the New England Patriots would have to pay $7.79 million should they designate CB Asante Samuel as their franchise player this offseason, while placing the franchise tag on TE Daniel Graham would cost $4.31 million.

They also have a ton of TEs already on the team, although I'm sure they'd like to keep Graham. He'd be a good target for us since he can block and catch, but he's probably out of our price range given that most teams have much more cap room than we do.

Thoughts on Billy Miller? He is UFA this year, spent 2005 with Cleveland after putting up some decent number with the Texans.

No better than what we already have.

Miller Burnt us for the winning TD in 03 if memory serves correctly.

Isnt Gonzalez supposed to be testing the market too?
Werent we linked to him before somewhere?

Most likely out of our range too. Id like Zack Miller to slide to our round 2 pick.

Gonzo got extended a couple of weeks ago. I like the kid named Newton in the draft

I would like to have Graham or Eric Johnson if we can afford either of them.

TE shouldn't be a priority. We have serviceable guys, and very few teams have a pass catching TE in addition to two quality WRs.

Serviceable is about the best you can say for them. I think it would help our offense to have a reliable guy at tight end. Several good teams had two good wide outs and a good tight end this year.

Dallas has Owens Glenn and Witten
Indy has Harrison Wayne and Clark
Seattle has several good wide outs and a good tight end in Stevens
New York has Toomer, Burress and Shockey
Most of the other playoff teams have good receiving tight ends:
Heap, Gates, Gonzales, LJ Smith, NE has several.

I am not sure I would call Seattle's TE "good."
