Bears keep on proving people wrong.

First, they weren't going to make it past the Seahawks. They weren't supposed to be able to stop Hasselback and his spread offense. Plus, Holmgren had more experience than Smith.

Bears proved them wrong. Sure, it took an overtime win. But it was still that - a win.

Second, they weren't supposed to win vs. the Saints. The ESPN "experts" ALL said the Saints would win. They went 0-8. Here in TBR land, the vast majority of you all "know it alls" said the Saints would win. They weren't supposed to stop the NFC's best offense. The result? They held Brees to 14 points, caused 4 turnovers and scored 21 fourth quarter points and thrash the Saints.

    Bears proved them all wrong.

Now, the Bears are 7 point underdogs to the Colts. And I just keep thinking that the Bears will continue to prove everyone wrong.

On the other hand, I'm glad that it's against the Colts. I absolutely despise the Patriots. So, if the Bears don't win it, I'll be glad that Manning got it.

They were the favorite in both games. 9-10 points in the Seattle game.

The Bears didn't prove anyone wrong. They barely beat a mediocre Seahawks team and then stayed close against the Saints even though New Orleans was coughing the ball up at will and making about the worst coaching decisions possible. As much as the Panthers struggled this season, I'd still give them even odds against Chicago on a neutral field.

    True.

Until the second half. Then they beat the crap out of the Saints.

Chicago was only up by four at the start of the fourth quarter. The floodgates opened when the Saints tried a dumb blitz, Grossman threw it blindly up for grabs, and Berrian made a great play.

I can not get that egg they laid in the first half against the Cardinals out of my head when I think about the Bears. They should not have won that game. They did that in other games too, ie Packers. When you win inspite of your QB and have some really bad games during the year it is only natural for people to doubt you.

Fine. I never said people didn't have reason to doubt them. I said that the Bears have continually proven people wrong.

Heck, for the the Saints game, Kreutz said that all the Saints fans were rooting for them and all the Bears fans were doubting them. That was so true in many ways.

And what I'm saying is that the Bears kept proving people wrong.

Here is an excerpt from an article about Lovie Smith in which Smith makes a comment about this:

Smith and his players, for example, shrugged off a "Play Angry" sign that a couple of fans posted on the outskirts of their Lake Forest camp in the weeks before the Saints game. But on game day, several Bears did play angry, motivated in part by pro-Saints propaganda that a certain coach made sure they all saw in the hours before kickoff.

And what about now? What about the Colts being established as a touchdown favorite for Super Bowl XLI on Feb. 4?

    "Us, being underdogs?" Smith asked.

    Yes, here we go again.

"I wouldn't bet against the Bears," Smith said, "if I were a betting man."

Grossman led the Bears on an 85 yard drive, throwing four times for gains of 12, 13, 20, and 33 yards. If you call the last one lucky, fine, but the whole drive was NOT lucky. It was simply good.
