I personally think that Vinatieri and the play of the defense are the main reasons they're going to the Superbowl. How many shots at the Superbowl did Vanderjagt cost the Colts? At least one, and probably more, I'd bet.

Which was the answer to the question, "How does if feel to get the monkey off your back." A fairly classy answer to a question teed up for him to take a shot at his critics.

    Kind of reaching IMO, chip.

That was in response to someone asking him if he personally felt like the "monkey was off his back".

Given the context. I have no problem with that answer.

Edit: Piper beat me to it.

It's not like I'm the only person who thinks he comes off as arrogant and I certainly don't expect a Tennesee fan to find any fault with him.

I know. And FWIW, I didn't like the "protection problems" comment last year. That was one where, yeah, IMO he stepped over the line even if true.

But I do think his critics overstate some of his faults. And for the most part, I don't see a lot of "glory hog" in him. Just my opinion, but I think that's more because of his attention he has gotten without championships. But that's corporate america's decision. Casual fans know him.

He's come up small in the past in big games, and yesterday he came up big. Yeah, I'd like to see him get his due.

No, you aren't, but as far as I can see there's no legitimate reason for your feelings. Manning did criticize his offensive line last year, but they deserved it. For some reason a lot of sports fans just love to hate him the same way that they do A-Rod, perhaps because both guys generally say all the right things and seem too politically correct.

Jealosy mostly, IMO. He had every advantage coming up anyone could want and then some.
