"Pressure surely is rising in Charlotte, given a regular season of high expectations -- but no postseason. We don't expect coach John Fox to be fired, but we wouldn't be surprised if there were front offices changes, including the arrival of a V.P. of player personnel, given that G.M. Marty Hurney is a cap-and-contracts guy."

I don't know that there's the slightest bit of truth to it, but it's interesting. Of course, I also don't think it'd happen, as a VP/personnel removes any control that Jerry or Mark Richardson have or want when it comes to the team.

Mark maybe, but not JR. He signs the checks.

well, right now, the end decision doesn't have a clear figurehead. Fox is the coach, Hurney as GM would normally have power over him, and yet in this setup he's even stated he's not talent evaluating. So I'd really have a hard time seeing, for instance, Hurney firing Fox or having control over who's hired. A VP would report to Mark, but would have active control (assumedly) over the coaching staff, the personnel, and have more control over the scouting than coordination.

That wouldn't keep either JR or MR from having a say, obviously, but it would also certainly put a buffer between the staff and the owner.

We have a good, efficient system right now. I'm not sure that I want another cook in the kitchen.

I don't think it would hurt us to have better pro scouting, though.

We've got a new director of college scouting, but the pro guys are still the same.

I'll be interested to see if that makes a difference this coming draft.

Agree on questioning the credability of the story, but it might be just what we need. a guy with no loyalty to the Hanktons, Morgans, Ciurciu's etc...

The key word is "surely" meaning all speculation.

Where did the new college scouting guy come from. If he was promoted from within, that doesn't fill me with confidence.

There was a rumor posted on another board that the Giants are looking to acquire Coach Fox in exchange for first round draft picks. Couple of fans apparently called WFNZ asking about it this morning.

(and no, I wasn't the one who started it) :apfbbt:

They're going to trade Coughlin, Manning & first round picks for Foxy - we're tossing in Weinke for good measure. Then we'll talk Tiki out of retirement and trade Morgan for Barber.
