You can't say "well, take away his running yards..."

That's crap, that's like saying "well, take away Smitty's YAC"

Sure you can say that. A QB isn't generally expected to make his living as a runner, Vick is different. He'd naturally double most any other QB in that area.

It would be more like taking away Smitty's rushing yards anyway.

Exactly, which is why you can't simply judge him with a QB rating.

I will judge him on this, he is an anomily. Coaches aren't sure how to play him and team mates aren't sure what to expect. Opponents get lucky and contain him once in a while and he gets lucky and actually has a good day as a "real QB".

Nothing wrong with that attitude, but it probably would not be able to get the best out of a player like Vick. The idea of a "real QB" would be a daily hurdle and would play out in so many different ways. That is why old Mora called him a coach killer because it would require outside-the-box thinking to get the most production and Ws out of that type of athlete. By definition, the majority of coaches do not think outisde-the-box.

I thought he should have had the Pro Bowl spot given to Tony Romo.

yes, I would much rather see us face Schaub twice a year.

Exactly. McFly, you usually post with some sense but you're spectacularly dense today.

This is just silly. Taking away the "extra" stuff guys do is stupid, because it's that extra stuff that either compensates for lacking in other areas or simply add on to an already quality set of skills, making the whole player.

LT has thrown quite a few HB option TDs. Hines Ward is known for his blocking from the WR position. Heaven forbid a TE catch the ball, he should be runblocking!

That Devin Hester guy, he's worthless. On of these days he'll get lucky and actually have a good day as a "real DB" :(

The big picture looks good because it's distorted by really good numbers in one area. Don't take them away, just set them aside and compare. Rushing yards are about the only area he's in the top half of the league, send him to the Pro Bowl as a RB if you like, but not as a QB.

The problem with Vick is that when he has to play a good defense he struggles. A good defense can shut down his running ability. It has been proven in the playoffs that you have to be able to pass the ball to win. It is too easy for a good defense to shut down a running game. Vick can beat bad to average defenses with his running and that is enough to make Atlanta 8-8 or sometimes better but I do not think you can ever win a superbowl without a better passer than Vick will ever be.

Guys like McNabb and McNair took that next step and become good pocket passers. Culpepper was on his way at one time until he regressed. Vick just never seems to show any sign of being able to add that to his game. Maybe with the right coaching he would make it. I certainly think a guy like Andy Reid could get a lot more out of Vick than Mora or Reeves have gotten.
