Dumb question from a blind West Coaster -- is Morgan a team captain?

If I recall he was real healthy during college.

Found this while I was looking at the Baltimore Sun:

Please Fox/Hurney, let him try it somewhere else.

Not no mo. Pep has taken Danielle's place:

What can't you say about Peppers?
By Darin Gantt ยท The Herald - Updated 10/11/06 - 8:05 AM

CHARLOTTE -- We could talk for weeks about how gifted Julius Peppers is, there's that much material.
He keeps doing ridiculous things on a regular basis, and you reach a point where you run out of ways to express how amazing the last one was.

But the beauty of the Carolina Panthers defensive end's game is that it's evolving, growing, and becoming more complete with each passing week.

And the best part may be the thing that's impossible to quantify, harder still to even notice.

Peppers was already an athletic freak. He was already one of the most feared pass-rushers in the game. He was already one of the better run-defenders, even if not enough people got deeper than the highlights to see it.

Now he's becoming a leader, a guy his teammates turn to. It's a good thing he's doing it now, since the team's at a bit of a crossroads in that regard.

Peppers wasn't one of the two defensive captains the team chose prior to the season, which was fine with him, because he runs the opposite direction of anything that puts him in the spotlight.

The guys the players chose were safety Mike Minter and linebacker Dan Morgan, the conscience of the club and the dynamic play-maker in the middle.

The week after Morgan's concussion in the opener, coach John Fox sent veteran defensive end Mike Rucker to midfield with the other captains to stand in for Morgan. That was the day Peppers set up shop in the Vikings backfield, sacking Brad Johnson three times.

So perhaps it was a nod to sheer performance -- and perhaps he's stayed there out of simple superstition -- but Peppers has gone to midfield before games ever since.

"Julius is not real high as far as a verbal guy," Fox said Monday. "Yet when he speaks it's something that needs to be heard. He leads so much by example in how he conducts himself on and off the field. There are a lot of ways to lead.

"I'm not sure he's way up there in the verbal area, but he's definitely a leader."

It's not a given that the best player on the field is also a leader, in fact, it can be quite rare. They get to see another one this week when they go to Baltimore. Peppers is on the verge of becoming the Ray Lewis of this team, without the negative implications.

He's been compared athletically to Michael Vick. He's able to chase down pretty much any other quarterback in the league. Older ones are like stationary targets for him. But he's done so much more already. Perhaps the most impressive of his plays came in Tampa, when he shot around from the backside of a run play, grabbed a full-steam Mike Alstott with his left arm and jerked the 250-pound fullback backward and out of the end zone.

Not many people can even imagine making the plays he makes, though.

He can. He's always said he wants to be viewed as the most complete defensive end ever.

The next challenge -- and the next responsibility -- will be becoming the leader, taking over the locker room the way he takes over a field.

That one's going to be tougher, but how many times have you seen him fall short?

I've noticed Peppers being much more verbal on the field this season. MUCH MORE. Cheering the other guys, revving up the crowd, yeah he's growing in many ways and it's been a delight to watch! :notworthy
