True, and Key had a drop. Smth dropped a TD. The one deep out Smith caught and dropped landing on the ground was a little high. Jake does tend to sail high, and he was probably a bit worried about the underneath guy.

We were also safe in our calls and Jake's decisions. Overall, the execution broke down, some on Jake's accuracy, drops, or blocking. It wasn't one thing.

i was referring more to the continuous play action on 1st down, which i like when it's called at the right times. this of course led to rushing plays on 2nd and 3rd downs, often wen cleveland stacked the box, and even the announcers knew it was coming. and btw, we don't throw to our te's more because?

We ran and passed about equally on 1st down, and we threw more to the tight ends today (6 completions) than we have in a long time. The play-calling was suspect at times, but your particular complaints don't seem to have any merit.

I thought Jake's passing looked better - not perfect, but his off throws were more due to coverage I thought. On one Smitty drop, I think he looked for running space before he secured the ball - at least that's what I thought because he seemed to take a quick glance down field.

Jake did ok, but he had the same problems with inaccuracy and didn't always make the right reads. Anytime he avoids dumb turnovers, though, that's a feat in itself.

He did a fine job of controlling the game. He could have tried to make something rediculous happen on a few of those scrambles, but he was smart. A couple of mis-fires, but it's hard to be perfect. 20/29 with no INTS was more than enough on his part.

On one of the overthrows, Smith was basically jogging his route. Maybe his leg hurt that play. The throw looked like it might have been a TD if Smith had been running like he did later with one of those Henning right passes, or like he did after that pooch KO in the last seconds.

I was pleased with Jake today. I know there were some inaccurate passes. No one ever said Jake was capable of playing at an All-Pro level. But he was calm under pressure, and he had plenty of accurate passes.

They must've seen something guarding TEs. True enough, 3-4s often do struggle a little there, since the strongside ILB is more of a run stopper and the OLB is generally a rusher. I did figure that beating them in blocking would be aided by two tights, don't know how much we used that, but we did get the TE involved. For what we had facing us at CB, I'm a little surprised we didn't see more spread, but after D'Angelo's unfortunate situation, we did see more of it (whether that's on purpose or coincidental, I can't say).

I didn't see a lot of calls that were atrocious from my seat. I'll go back and watch later, of course, and might have a better idea then.

One upside, we held an O that struggles most of the time but excels in 3rd down, to 2-14.

Yes. You can't look at games like this as "oh well, at least he didn't fuck up." He was efficient, and if we'd needed him more, we would've gotten more out of him. We played conservatively, and somewhat rightly so with the various size leads we had.

What bothers me is that he's still much more inaccurate than he was the last few seasons. His numbers look solid because of all the short, easy throws, but they were also boosted by some leaping catches like Key's on the sideline. He still definitely looks off.
