I read both articles. If you just read Belichicks response that was quoted it sounds more serious than it is. Even though Belichik was having some fun with it, it is still very unusual for any coach to talk trash about a player, especially Mr. Personality himself.

Has anyone checked the temperature in Hell, I think it just froze over.

Johnson takes out trash -- Talkative Bengal sends message to Pats DBs

FOXBORO -- Chad Johnson was in the midst of a conference call yesterday when he uttered the words every reporter longs to hear.

“Can I talk trash to you guys for a second?”

Over the next few minutes, the colorful Bengals wide receiver proceeded to eviscerate pretty much every member of the Patriots secondary, providing no shortage of bulletin board material in advance of Sunday’s game in Cincinnati.

Saying he had some “messages” he wanted relayed, the outrageous Johnson cheerfully unloaded. To wit:

“You tell 37 (Rodney Harrison) that I’m going to knock his helmet off,” Johnson said. “You tell Asante (Samuel) to make sure he has help for all four quarters or his 22 is going to be a 55. Isn’t that what it looks like upside down?”

Johnson was just getting warmed up.

“Wait a minute, I’m not finished,” he said. “You tell Junior (Seau) that when I’m done with him . . . never mind, I’m not going to pick on Junior. That’s not a good one. I could get hurt there.”

He paused. What about Ellis Hobbs?

“I don’t really know Ellis,” he said. “I’m going to leave him alone until I get on the field. Then I’m going to pick on him.”

That left free safety Eugene Wilson.

“You tell Eugene Wilson, if he hits me coming across the middle we’ll probably have to fight and get thrown out of the game right there on the spot. The last hit I’m going to take this year was in Cleveland. Anyone that hits me like that again is going down.”

Johnson’s tongue was planted firmly in his cheek -- the disses were scripted -- but playful or not, they still represented a brazen assault on the three-time Super Bowl champions, who typically have to manufacture disrespect (see Harrison vs. Freddie Mitchell).

That the words came from Johnson should be no surprise. This is the same man who recently erected a billboard in Cincinnati with his “checklist” of defensive backs who can’t cover him. Samuel, as “their best corner,” made the list this time.

Earlier this year he also made the following humble proclamation:

“It’s humanly impossible to stop 85. I cannot be stopped. Period.”

In one of yesterday’s great injustices, Johnson made his comments after the Patriots closed their locker room to the media and the targets of his barbs could not respond. Attempts to reach Harrison, Hobbs, Samuel and Wilson were unsuccessful, though Samuel’s agent, Alonzo Shavers, said his client takes it as a sign of respect that Johnson singled him out.

“The last time they played (in 2004), Asante was a little insulted that Chad talked about (Tyrone) Poole and not him,” Shavers said with a laugh.

Johnson eventually settled down yesterday and revealed that he goes way back with fellow Floridian Samuel and considers Harrison a father figure.

“Rodney is one of those guys that I sit down and talk to every pregame for 20 or 25 minutes on keeping my head clean and staying focused,” Johnson said. “It’s more of a father/son talk every time I talk to Rodney. He says if I’m in the headlines, make sure it’s for something positive.”
Not surprisingly, Johnson admires Harrison’s ability to insult.

“He’s an old-school trash talker,” Johnson said. “He’ll hit you and talk trash, punch you at the bottom of a pile and talk trash. He’s an original.”

So is Johnson. He begged Patriots coach Bill Belichick to lock him up in single coverage. The Pro Bowler has been limited to 137 yards and one touchdown in three games in part because of double and triple teams.

“Tell him please, just give me a little one-on-one,” Johnson said. “I won’t score. I’ll stop at the 1, go out of bounds. I promise.”

Johnson is fun-loving and popular and expects the Patriots to take his words as a challenge.

“It’s funny, but they know I mean business,” he said. “I talk it, but I walk it. It’s never meant in a negative or unsportsmanlike way. Everybody understands it’s merely a challenge.”

Johnson signed off with a request those on the other end were only too happy to oblige: “Don’t forget to relay my messages.”

How did this work out for Chad? The Bengals had only 208 passing yards on 35 attemps. Chad had 0 TD's on 6 catches but only 2 catches in the 2nd half. Great game douchbag.

And so much for all the bullshit "changing of the guard" the media was drumming up with this game. Brady and the Patriots proved, once again, that they are still a force to be reckoned with and Carson Palmer is no Tom Brady.

This is like the 2004 Patriots...power running and dominating the defensive line of scrimmage.
