nope, the problem as I said before was that Hutchinson and Birk were attacking at different angles, making splitting the two easier.

Actually they were both coming from the front, Carstens just got his arm between them and ripped Hutchinson to the side. Honestly I'm still shocked that he had that kind of strength given what we saw of him last season.

FWIW, I thought Richard marshall looked good yesterday. Didn't see too many comments on him.

Look at Birk's angle. 45 to the sideline. Hutchinson is not pushing at the same angle - all you have to do is look at the legs.

Honestly, this now makes the Panthers underdogs. It is a better position than "Superbowl favorites," IMO. And hopefully, we have gotten all the stupid shit out of our system and can get down to the meat of the season.

 They're a center and guard. They came from slightly different spots on the field to the man in front of them, just like every other double team in the history of the NFL. You don't see the center slide over and stand shoulder to shoulder with the guard before moving up to engage the DT. Birk and Hutchinson were coming at the angles you normally see double teams overwhelm the defender, but Carstens broke it by getting his arm through and pushing Hutchinson aside.

That is when the angles became an issue, because after Carstens had moved Hutchinson, he and Birk could no longer push along the same relative plane.

Of course they're coming from different angles. That has nothing to do with it. You drive in the same direction, not at different angles. You engage, you drive in the same direction. Not at different vectors. I had been doing what's happening here, and was instructed to work in unison with the other blocker in the same direction because blocking at different vectors wasted a good portion of the effort and allowed the defender a better chance to get free.

*sigh* The pictures show that's exactly what they're doing. It's only after Carstens pushes Hutchinson to the side that they are working at cross purposes.
