Julio Jones will have his breakout game in two weeks, and Ronde Barber will say: “YOU REALLY GOTTA LOVE THE JOB DAN QUINN HAS DONE KEEPING THIS TEAM TOGETHER”

We have, for the most part, been a late season team, regardless of coaching regime.

96 - won seven in a row to close the season
99 - won three of the last four to make things interesting.
02 - won four of five in December and set the stage for the run to the SB the following year.
03 - won three of four in December.
04 - went 6-2 the last half of the season after a brutal 1-7 start.
05 - 3-2 in December to close the season. Early losses to NO and Miami cost us a chance at a bye and possibly the NFcC game at home.
07 - 3-2 in December after losing 5 in a row in the middle of the schedule.
08 - finished 4-1 to go 12-4 on the season and get the #2 seed. Then Jake happened.
09 - another 4-1 finish, only this time we end up 8-8
12 - yes, another 4-1 finish to set up a solid run in 13
13 - 4-1 in December again. 11-1 in our last 12 games before getting punked against a more experienced San Fran team
14 - 4-0 in December to turn the division on its head and earn a home playoff game despite a 7-8-1 record.
15 - everyone knows what happened.
16 - the super bowl hangover was real. But we did finish with a respectable 2-2 record.
17 - 3-1 finish. Also won seven of the last nine to take the WC.

2006 did suck. 6-4 turned to 6-8. One of those was a 37-3 spanking to Pittsburgh. We also lost close ones to Cincy and Philly when the WR ran the wrong route in the end zone after the 2 minute warning. And as much as it pains me, 2006 was also the year of the Chris Gamble trick play on a punt return in Minnesota. Theee giveaways in a year where the division was won at 10-6

1997 was pretty bad too. Lost three of four to go 7-9 overall. There were other seasons where we were shitty on the back end of the schedule, but those were mostly seasons where we were just shitty overall (98, 01, 10 come to mind).

That’s what I mean. It’s a jolt to the system.

Oh well, who knows. We’ll see what happens.

Yeah. Your post made me look back a little. I remember 2006 pretty well. But I was curious to look closer and see how we finished.

We have lost five in a row after a pretty solid start. We have had losing streaks longer but this one is different because we have to talent to win. Well, on the surface we do I guess.

Comparing seasons is dumb voodoo shit.

*edit - I do appreciate your effort in compiling all of that data.

It was more of a compilation than a comparison. I was putting it together to agree with Bull in that we just aren’t used to this. George Seifert’s team finishing 4-1 in 1999 has zero to do with anything a Ron Rivera team does late in a given season. But from a pure fan’s perspective, we have had the kind of teams that make a late season surge, rather than a late season collapse.

Yea, there’s no correlation, really. But it does feel like shit to suck in q3/q4.

I hear you. I just hate the "this is like year X" stuff.

Every team is their own team. I was simple comparing the feeling of blowing a 6-2 start from a fan’s perspective, not one team to another.
