Saw a report on the NFL network today that both the Dolphins and the Giants are seriously looking at Tim Couch. Seems he has been rehabbing his shoulder and that Jesse Palmer's days in New York could be numbers. If signed would give the Giants 2 number 1 overall picks at QB on the roster.

ATP, I'd put money on Palmer outplaying Couch.

It makes you wonder how a guy falls that far that fast. How do you go from the top pick to a guy who can not even make a roster? I guess it happens a lot like Akili Smith, Heath Shuler, Cade McNown, Ryan Leaf but it still amazes me that either

A: the scouts were way way way wrong on these guys

    or

B: they have the talent but he coaches in the NFL are not able to bring it out of them.

In this case, its definitely the coachs' fault. Couch is actually left-handed but the coaches insist on him throwing with his right.

I guess you could make the argument that these guys get that big money and flame out but that seems unlikely to happen as much as it does. Even if that is the case I bet most of these guys blow that money and need to play again to get more. If they are really talented then they should be able to make successful comebacks. Look at Tommy Maddox, they should all be capable of that type of thing.

I think what happens with a lot of guys like that is that they get their minds and confidence shattered by the teams that draft them. All those guys were thrown to the wolves with little or no support. I'm afraid that's already starting to happen with Alex Smith.
