    David Bowie - BlackStar

    David Bowie - BlackStar

    "Blackstar"

In the villa of Ormen, in the villa of Ormen
    Stands a solitary candle, ah-ah, ah-ah
In the centre of it all, in the centre of it all
    Your eyes

On the day of execution, on the day of execution
Only women kneel and smile, ah-ah, ah-ah
At the centre of it all, at the centre of it all
    Your eyes, your eyes

    Ah-ah-ah

    Ah-ah-ah

In the villa of Ormen, in the villa of Ormen
    Stands a solitary candle, ah-ah, ah-ah
At the centre of it all, at the centre of it all
    Your eyes, your eyes
    Ah-ah-ah

Something happened on the day he died
Spirit rose a metre and stepped aside
Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried:
    (I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar)

How many times does an angel fall?
How many people lie instead of talking tall?
He trod on sacred ground, he cried aloud into the crowd
    (I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar, I'm not a gangstar)

    I can't answer why (I'm a blackstar)
Just go with me (I'm not a filmstar)
    I'm a take you home (I'm a blackstar)
Take your passport and shoes (I'm not a popstar)
And your sedatives, boo (I'm a blackstar)
You're the flash in the pan (I'm not a marvelstar)
    I'm the great I am (I'm a blackstar)

I'm a blackstar, way up, on money, I've got game
I see right, so wide, so open-hearted pain
I want eagles in my daydreams, diamonds in my eyes
    (I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar)

Something happened on the day he died
Spirit rose a metre and stepped aside
Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried:
    (I'm a blackstar, I'm a starstar, I'm a blackstar)

    I can't answer why (I'm not a gangster)
But I can tell you how (I'm not a flamstar)
    We were born upside-down (I'm a starstar)
Born the wrong way 'round (I'm not a white star, I'm a blackstar)
    Oo-oo-oo (I'm not a gangster, I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar)
    Oo-oo-oo (I'm not a pornstar, I'm not a wandering star)
    Oo-oo-oo (I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar)

In the villa of Ormen, stands a solitary candle
    Ah-ah, ah-ah
At the centre of it all, your eyes
On the day of execution, only women kneel and smile
    Ah-ah, ah-ah
At the centre of it all, your eyes
    (Your eyes, Ah-ah-ah)

I'd list almost every cut on Boston's first album.

Hitch a Ride is perhaps the best to me in arrangement. Also the guitar solo last part of the song is as fine as it gets.

Pink Floyd - Goodbye Blue Sky

Pink Floyd - Goodbye Blue Sky

    "Goodbye Blue Sky"

    [Childs voice:]
Look, Mummy. There's an airplane up in the sky.

    Oooooooo ooo ooo ooooh
Did you see the frightened ones
Did you hear the falling bombs
    Did you ever wonder
Why we had to run for shelter
When the promise of a brave new world
Unfurled beneath a clear blue sky
    Oooooooo ooo ooooo oooh
Did you see the frightened ones
Did you hear the falling bombs
The flames are all long gone
    But the pain lingers on
    Goodbye blue sky
    Goodbye blue sky
    Goodbye
    Goodbye

I saw Boston in VA in 1977 or 1978 between the 1st and 2nd album (they played some off their to be released 2nd). An unknown Sammy Haggar opened for them. He and they were great actually. They were much better that I recall than that Giants Stadium recording (I've watched and listened to that whole show many times thanks).

I was pretty high during that concert but have always been very critical of all the acts I've seen or played with and they were pretty good and I do remember it well. I've still yet to see them play all that good live since. Their music is really hard to reproduce live because of the massive layering of guitars and vocals and though Scholz nails his stuff live on the keys, his guitar playing isn't to the same level as his recordings. Barry G. used to nail that shit live but none of his subsequent replacements have ever done it justice.

Things haven't changed since 1997. They've gotten worse, in fact.

A personal relationship described almost exclusively through metaphors.

One of the few songs Rush ever recorded that could be considered a "love song."

I was inspired totally by, and learned to play guitar/keyboards to Rush records, which lead to a decent music career for me- full and part time. I've seen them a stoopid number of times (more than any other act) and think they are perhaps one of the best rock and roll acts live.
