Redskins LB coach on LaVar Arrington:

LaVar Arrington hasn't uttered a word about his former team this week. His first and last will come today when he speaks to reporters for the only time before Sunday's game against the Redskins.

But it has already gotten crazy in Washington, starting yesterday with linebackers coach Dale Lindsay, who was asked how much help Arrington will be able to provide the Giants' offense in decoding the Redskins' defense

"None," Lindsay told reporters. "He didn't know anything when he was here. What makes you think he'll know something up there?"

CB Shawn Springs, who is listed as doubtful because of a groin injury, also took a shot at Arrington.

"I don't think LaVar knew all of the defense when he was here," Springs said.

It will be interesting to see how Arrington responds to these comments.

Wow. Can't believe the LB coach said that. A head coach like Fox would have issues with that. I wonder if Gibbs does, because his response was more diplomatic:

Meanwhile, Redskins coach Joe Gibbs didn't rip Arrington, nor did he blame him for the problems that arose in Washington. In fact, Gibbs blamed himself.

"My reflection on that whole thing is all based on the fact of, 'What could I have done to have helped that, to have kept that from happening?' Because that's my job," Gibbs said on a conference call with local reporters. "That's what I'm supposed to do as a head coach. I'm supposed to be able to work through things like that."

Gibbs also refused to knock Arrington's play on the field

"I think LaVar is one of the best athletes that plays in the NFL. I think he's very explosive," Gibbs said. "I wish he had been healthy here with us over that two-year span. We think he's a great athlete with great emotion ... a premier player.

"I think that's what the Giants felt, and that's the reason the Giants wound up with him."

All of that took a back seat Wednesday after Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs and linebackers coach Dale Lindsey both said Arrington's paltry - Lindsey implied nonexistent - knowledge of the Redskins' defensive systems would be of little help to the Giants.

After divulging that he kept his Redskins playbook, Arrington addressed those statements with a little sarcasm.

``I do have my playbook,'' he said. ``If I don't understand it, I'm sure coach (Tom) Coughlin can decipher it.''

For being rumored to be such an ass (which he wasn't when I met him), Arrington is the one handling himself with class this week. Gibbs is playing it the same way he always does, the right way.
The comments I heard on NFL network this morning show that assistant coaches should NEVER be allowed to have a microphone in thier face. Lindsay is a bitter bitch and I would expect more class from a veteran of Shawn Springs tenure.
