Draft Countdown has us taking Quinton Coples

    http://www.draftcountdown.com/sub/Mock-Draft-A.php

I am not sure I would go with a DE since we seem to have bigger needs in other places. It might be a good time to trade down and try to make up for not having a third round pick.

I'm all but sure that Coples will be the pick.

You think that is a good thing or a bad thing? Seems like we have bigger needs at places other than DE but we can't draft solely on need.

DE is a pretty huge need. DT is arguably bigger, but the Panthers have made comments suggesting that they think they're fine at DT, plus none of them are even close to being worth 8/9. Coples would go top 5 based on talent if there weren't questions about his attitude. Even though he didn't live up to the lofty expectations people had for him, he still had a strong year overall for the Tar Heels. I'm not crazy about him, but I do like that he's a defensive end who can rush the passer while also being big enough and good enough with his hands to hold ground against the run. He's also versatile enough to be useful in the team's 3-4 looks.

and he's probably the only defensive guy we wouldnt be reaching for at 8/9 (based on what we know now, of course).

The words "trade" and "down" have never been uttered within this organization since the mascot of the Special Olympics took over as our GM. "Trade" always preceeds "up"...
