Well the Bills are 2nd in total defense behind the Carolina Panthers.

Buffalo does have a legitimately great defense, but the offensive tackles, McCaffrey, and Cam haven't just looked bad due to the quality of the opposition. Unfortunately there's not much we can do about any of them. The play-calling simply has to compensate by emphasizing things this offense is good at while avoiding its weaknesses as much as possible.

Some of it involves plays that Shula has used before. We need to dump the notion of Cam becoming a pocket passer because that is handicapping the offense. Newton isn't the rushing threat he once was, but he still has to be used in that fashion to manipulate defenses. It will help Stewart find more room and it will make play action more effective.

Scrambling to avoid a sack on a five step drop that lingers to seven step timing is not what I'd consider a qb rushing plan.

Shula has used designed QB runs frequently in the past. They've gone away from that since Cam became so expensive, but the offense needs to go back to it.

we'd be doing a lot better if that wide open guy got the ball more, you know, that guy.
