Thanks Honey. You let me know when you're ready. :)

I can't find the same size boards as what was originally used. I've decided to go with either slate which I can get lots of really cheap, or stain them black. I will probably go with the stain. I don't have to time or patience to rip out boards and replace them now. Besides, I've already installed three cabinets over the worst of the stains.

I don't reckon you would have to go with all black would ya? Couldn't you use like a really dark brown?

Ok you boys will probably say this is stupid, but could you try bleaching that area? The dark area is mildewed wood... would clorox not bleach out the wood some AND kill the mildew stain? You could just try it. To appease me ya know....

Ok I don't have time to google this properly- but I just found this from a dude who is redoing wood on a boat.

If the wood has weathered for long, has remnants of a previous sealer, varnish, lacquer, or the like, and/or if mildew has
set in we will have to use oxalic acid to kill the organisms, bleach out the black and stained areas, and deep clean the
    wood.

I would consider dark brown, but the rest of the house will probably be natural. The hardwoods are very old and have a great luster. They don't make wood like this anymore. There is a bleaching product someone's told me about. I may try it. I really like the natural wood. If it doesn't bleach, they will be black, or slate. I've got a long time before I redo the floors. I'm guessing it will be a year or so. I want to do them all at once and winter isn't the best time to stain and seal since the wood will contract as it gets colder.

Laminate has been ordered. Temporary countertops are temporary.

    Looks good.

I was considering purchasing new cabinets as well but decided a fresh coat of paint would suffice for now. We redid the bathrooms this year so I guess we'll wait until next year to do the kitchen.

could'nt you save money by finding some granite remnants for the counter tops? i just hate to see a beautiful redo end up with laminate.

All the work is looking good.Have you thought about doing the countertops and backsplash in Ceramic Tile? Have done alot of
countertops this way,and it gives A more Modern Day upgrade
compared to laminate, with alot less price of Granite. And also do the backsplash the same way.

    Just a thought!
