I started this week on the kitchen project.

    Photos show Wednesday morning, before.

Wednesday night, the linoleum, plywood, and cabinets were removed.

Thursday afternoon, New lighting installed and all new electrical has been upgraded to meet code. Two GFCI circuits and 20-amp breakers for large appliances.

Today, new plumbing supply lines for the entire house. Three base cabinets installed. The kitchen is functional.

Tomorrow I start on the walls. Lots of patching and plaster work. The floors are hardwood. There's felt backing from decades old tile that will need to be sanded off.

    Nice.
I take it that empty space to the left is for a dishwasher?

Yep. Right now, it's not in the budget since some things cost more than I had hoped, but I'll get one eventually.

I started on the bead board this morning.

The floor's gonna look miraculous! What're you using on it?

At first, I was using a steamer. It's some weird felt that I suppose was on the original floor covering. In the bathroom, this crap would not come off so I stuck with vinyl tile. I really didn't like that idea for the kitchen. Steaming takes a while and the smell is ungodly. It's like feet and garlic blended with sour milk.

To get the glue up, I poured some Pine Sol Lemon on the cleaned area. It soaked over into the other spots. When I came back to steam, it peeled off. Right now I have another third of the floor soaking. I'll give it 20-30 minutes then lift it right off. The hardest part is getting rid of the soap. The wood was never varnished before the felt stuff went down. At least it was water based glue.

I like the natural color. I may do that in the rest of the house too when those floors get refinished. Wanted to wait until the kitchen was done.

That floor is VERY nice. Is it hardwood?

I've got tar(?)-based squares in my kitchen that are so old and funky, 60+yo... I don't know what the adhesive is. I'm pretty sure it's just a plank board (not ply or particle) floor.

Hardwood just like in the rest of the house. There is some staining.

If you can get that staining up, maybe sand it out, you'll have a floor to boast about. Put something down to enhance the natural wood(I have no idea what), lay place mats for walk areas and furniture, etc., show it off. very cool, IMO.

Lots of the floor will be covered by cabinets. I still have more to install on either side of the range. What isn't covered will most likely get sanded, stained ebony, and poly'd with the rest of the house. I seriously doubt those water stains will come out as you can see them in the basement under the floor.

Plu, don't hate the playa. Hate the game. :drums:
