When I attempt to start a Dell Inspiron/1100 I receive the following message:

    Stop 0x24 or NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM

The machine will not start in safe mode.

When I run diagnostics I receive the following error message:

    Start DST Short Test

    Test results fail

    Error code 1000-0146

Msg unit 2:dst log contains previous errors

I have no idea what to do next. Any suggestions?

Thanks, I did google the error message. Received an array of problems and solutions. None really worked. Hard drive failure was a common problem.
The bitch isn't under warranty as far as I know. It's my daughter's laptop. It's over a year old. None the less, I will contact tech support.

I have attempted to reload Windows but get the message before I can do anything. Will not proceed in safe mode either.

you can look at the hard drive and go to the manufactor's website, and there should be aplace to type in the serial #, it should tell you if it's under warranty...most HD's have 3-5 years
