"Last week in San Antonio at least six different teams said they rank Auburn quarterback Cam Newton as the number one prospect in the draft."

good. As long as we're not one, and as long as we don't ask for too much.

Not sure why, but I have this creepy feeling that Hurney is already sewing the name "Newton" onto the back of a Panthers # 1 Jersey for the draft.

not unlike Vick there's that feeling like the running game would benefit.

Of course, his ideal that taking away called runs means he's not a running QB? I don't necessarily buy that. There would naturally be a want to run more if the called runs aren't there.

He's fast on his drops, which you'd need, but despite that, I can't think of a single QB that's a running QB that did well in a Coryell O.

Good report, thanks for sharing. I'm starting to get onboard with Cam Newton, he doesn't seem to be much more risky than Fairley, with more upside.

Of course, the top option is to trade the pick and get more, but that seems so unlikely it's near retarded to ponder.

I'd never heard or seen newton speak, and people mentioned he sounded dumb. I don't think so. He comes off as smarter than Young or Vick. Whether he's sincere is arguable; that he was smart enough to either listen to people or come up with this on his own for image is not a bad sign.

This is a good point. Do we take a guy we don't need THAT badly (say, Bowers) just because he's pretty safe, or do we roll the dice on a badly needed position ?

Could you live with this scenario ?
Draft Newton ( as the franchise QB), sit him for the whole year behind a vet (Volek), and QB coach the shit out of him.
Trade Clausen/ a RB/ maybe even Steve Smith for draft picks, try to maneuver up for DT (say, Austin) in late first/early second.
Finish next year 6-10, 5-11 or so.
Plan on Newton being ready 2012.

I could live with this...dude's got all the potential in the world...good coaching could make him a star.

I still like him better than Clausen.

And - we wont get anything for Clausen in a trade.

I also like the idea that others covet him.
