    Is this based pretty much on a factual, available machine, or is it pretty much fictitious, designed to impress the reader(of a John Grisham novel)? If true, how sophisticated, up to date is it? [It's a good book read, btw.]

    A lot of that stuff is already in place. The 80 Meg of Ram is a bit much. Also while possible phone companies enter agreements with networks preventing the network switching. I could see the government getting access to something like this now, but odds of anyone else wouldn't be good. Plus I've got to think if its autoswitching you run the risk of dropping a call a LOT because of the different network types.
