    Hey.

    - Byrd made two awful decisions on returns. I think he was feeling his oats a little bit after last week. On his one target, he did get open on a 9 route, but the pass was underthrown by Gabby Giffords.

    - We've made him into a punchline, but I don't see a big difference between Bersin and Funchess. Devin isn't anything special. He's a lesser KB. There should be an open competition for the Z receiver.

    - The third stringer who caught my eye was Greg Van Roten, a G/C who played left guard yesterday. He made a nice block on one of CAP's long runs, and held his ground in pass protection. I'd like to see more of him next week. Moton was terrific at RT. He also made a key block on CAP's long run, and consistently stonewalled pass rushers. Conversely, Amini was a fucking nightmare. Please make it stop.

    - Shaq failed to set the edge on Henry's 17 yard TD run. We probably shouldn't be asking him to set the edge so often. It also would have been nice to see Mike Adams make the tackle.

    - Last week was a mixed bag for Hall. This week was just a tea bagging. I gave Colin Jones an assist for his woeful tackle attempt, but Hall surrendered the gap that led to the Titans 53 yard run towards the end of the half. It looks like he's going to be more of a project than I thought.

    - This is probably racist, but Mayo reminds me of a poor man's Dan Morgan. He'll flash and make a nice play every once in a while, but the best you're going to get out of him is 12-15 tackles 8 yards from the line of scrimmage. Cash is definitely a much better player going forwards than backwards, so I see why the Panthers moved him to linebacker. Unfortunately, playing in space is a big part of playing linebacker in this defense. Norris and Jacobs are just non-descript white dudes, and Boulware is too small and slow to play in the NFL. Sorry.

    - Eric Crume. He made a goal line tackle, and made an athletic TFL in the second half.

    - I'm convinced that Worley's best position is probably safety. He's a solid run defender, but you can see how small his margin of error is in coverage due to his average speed and athleticism. This was not his best game. One reason why I don't love PFF being taken so seriously is because nobody really knows what the fuck a players is supposed to do on a given play, but on Mariota's first TD, it appeared as though Worley completely fucked up since TD was already in the flat.

    - I'll be disappointed if McCaffrey isn't on the field at least 80% of the time. I don't care if you just have him out there as a decoy. He's clearly the best playmaker we have. The acceleration is just spellbinding. I saw him out wide, in the slot, and in the backfield. This is a good sign, but I still have doubts over Shula's competence. For instance, I don't understand the point of motioning him out wide just to throw him a quick out on third and long.

    - Teddy Williams is.....do I even need to say anything? Hurney needs to look for corner and safety depth after the final cuts. None of our DB reserves belong in the NFL. McCray is fun to watch on special teams, but he can't cover. None of them can cover. Colin Jones was especially terrible out there. This is a huge concern for me.

    - CAP is a better runner than Fozzy, but he doesn't do shit on special teams and he's not good in pass protection. Early in the third quarter, he completely misses a blitzing linebacker, but Joe Webb III is able to bail him out. You have to be able to do these things in the NFL.

Explosive plays are the lubricant of success in the NFL. You have to get them, and you have to prevent them from happening to you. This was the key to our wife stretchery in 2015. Below, I have charted the explosive plays from Saturday's game. This will be a weekly part of my evaluation.

That's not bad. Unfortunately, this good work was undone by a -3 turnover ratio, and 17 points allowed off of three turnovers. I do think +2 or better in the explosive ratio is a good weekly goal to strive for. Hopefully we keep that going against Jacksonville, and just cut out the stupid turnover bullshit.

Anderson has reverted back to the suckage he was in Cleveland. I'd almost rather see Webb as the #2 now. Almost.

I think the Panthers are much worse than we want to admit.
